Today's child is living in a digital age. With on the go music/video players, cell phones, and game systems every child is a digital native. Children today are using computers to be creative and innovative all the while using critical thinking and problem solving skills. My goal is for students to communicate, collaborate, and create to better understand the world they live in. I also like to emphasize that they must be good digital citizens.
Each class comes to the mac lab at least once a week. Kindergartners come for 30 minutes sessions, and 1st-5th grade students come for 45 minute sessions. One session focuses on correct keyboard typing skills as well as working on ST Math (JiJi) and or iStation. The other session concentrates on a computer related lesson. Lessons range from computer terminology to creating a movie from concept to final production. Students also use the lab to create computer generated class projects using various forms of media. We use Flip cameras, iMovie, Garage band, Keynote and various online programs to be creative.
